Fall Tasks Around the House

Fall is in the air – crisp and cool! The leaves are just starting to turn beautiful colors.  However, while it’s easy to lose yourself in fall’s splendor, there’s work to be done around the house to get ready for winter. At least you can be outdoors while you’re working! Here are some tasks that every homeowner should put on their To-Do list.

·         Clean the gutters. Ideally, this should be done after the trees around your house have lost most of their leaves. Scoop out all the debris from the gutters and make sure the downspouts are unclogged. If water can’t drain properly, it may back up and freeze forming ice dams which may damage your roof.

·         Rake the leaves. Don’t leave a heavy layer of leaves on your grass before the winter snow starts falling. They will kill your grass and you’ll have a lot of patching to do when spring arrives. It’s worth the effort to rake.

·         Trim trees and bushes. Fall is a great time to prune. By keeping tree limbs and shrubbery off your roof and siding, you will extend their life.

·         Inspect the seals on windows and doors. Make sure your windows and doors are sealed properly. If you find any air leaks, simple weather stripping may solve the problem. Leaky windows and doors make for a cold house and high utility bills. It may be worth the investment to replace them.

Enjoy this beautiful fall weather. Soak up as much sun and warmth while you can and get those chores done! Your house is worth the effort.
