Last Weekend of Summer

I can’t believe it’s already the last weekend of summer, Labor Day weekend! I know it sounds cliché but where the heck did the time go? I don’t remember getting a summer vacation (that’s because - I didn’t!). All is not lost though. There are a lot of fun things to do this weekend. Maybe we can add at least one more great summertime memory to our scrapbooks. Here are a few ideas:

·        Arts, Beats and Eats. Friday, August 29th through September 1st in downtown Royal Oak. There will be over 200 performances on ten stages, 200 juried art exhibitors and food from 50 local restaurants.  Some of the performances include Night Ranger, .38 Special, Third Eye Blind, The Spinners, The Village People and Jena Irene (American Idol runner-up) and much more. Festival admission is $3 until 3pm and $5 after 3pm on Saturday, Sunday & Monday. If you get there before 5pm on Friday, admission is free. For a complete schedule of events go to:  http://www.artsbeatseats.com.

·        The Detroit Jazz Festival. Friday, August 29th through September 1st in Hart Plaza and Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit. This is the 34th year for this event and features over 100 jazz performances over the weekend. There are also various educational activities for children and adults, fireworks and late night “jam sessions”. All for free! For more information go to: http://www.detroitjazzfest.com.

·        The Michigan Peach Festival. Thursday, August 28th through September 1st in Romeo. There is fun for the whole family including a parade, car show, craft show and business expo, a carnival and of course, all sorts of food and peach confections. For more information go to: http://www.peachfestromeo.com .

·        The Michigan Renaissance Festival. Every weekend now through September 28th in Holly, (12600 Dixie Highway). The theme for August 30th-September 1st is pirates and is called “High Seas Adventures”.  This weekend bring 4 non-perishable food items to the gate and receive $5 off your admission.  For admission pricing and a schedule of events go to:  http://www.michrenfest.com .

  • Clarkston’s Labor Day Parade. Monday, September 1st at 10:00am in downtown Clarkston. This marks the parade’s 72nd year and this year ChangingStreets.com will be in it! We hope to see you there!  For more information go to:  http://tinyurl.com/pv3d6xs .
