Weekend Events

The summer is flying by and unfortunately it doesn’t look like I’ll be getting out of town any time soon for a vacation. Luckily I don’t have to travel far to have some summer fun because there’s plenty of great events to attend locally. Here are a few ideas around our area this weekend:

Craft Detroit takes place Friday, August 1st from 7pm-11pm at Shed #3 of Detroit’s Eastern Market. Sample original cocktails, taste delicious foods from local restaurants, and enjoy live music and other entertainment. Tickets are $45 in advance or $50 at the door. Go to http://www.michigan.org/events/craft-detroit for more information.

Go cheer for the Tiger’s at Comerica Park August 1st-3d as they challenge the Colorado Rockies. Don’t leave too early because August 1st and 2nd are also nights with a firework display after the game.  To buy tickets and get more information go to:  http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com.

Enjoy a few hours of art and music at the Grand Blanc Summer Art Fair. It takes place Saturday, August 2nd and Sunday, August 3rd from 10am-5pm at Physician’s Park on Reid Road just west of Saginaw Street in downtown Grand Blanc.  For more details go to http://tinyurl.com/p7soatf.

Does a leisurely float down a river sound relaxing? The Flint River Watershed Coalition is hosting its first ever Flint River Flotilla Fest, Saturday, August 2nd at 3pm. The event is part of an effort by the Flint River Watershed Coalition to get people to see this river in a new light. According to an article on MLive (http://tinyurl.com/pqguoxh), the river has an unfair and false reputation. The cost for this event is $10 and the organizers encourage people to bring their own tubes or floating devices. For more information and to register for this event please visit flintriver.org/blog/.

Go enjoy some musical theatre at Crossroads Village’s historical opera house where the Kearsley Park Players will perform Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance.  The performances are August 1st-August 3rd at 7pm and tickets cost $5. For more information go to:  http://www.geneseecountyparks.org/event/2579.

So, even though it would be more fun to luxuriate in some sort of exotic location with an umbrella drink in hand, I guess fun can be had just about anywhere. Here’s wishing everybody an enjoyable and relaxing weekend!
