Treetop Challenge

You don’t have to travel far to challenge yourself both physically and mentally. I just learned of a destination in West Bloomfield called “The Adventure Park” that has obstacle courses and zip lines high up in the trees to really get your adrenaline pumping.

Each course has different degree s of difficulty ranging from beginner to advanced. Your ticket buys you up to three hours of fun (and exhaustion) and you can be as brave as you want or as big of a chicken as you want. The ticket includes instruction, your harness and gloves to wear while you’re climbing and you can try as many courses as you dare (there are some restrictions for younger children).

Don’t worry about getting stuck up in the tree tops. There is park staff throughout each course that will coach you. In the event that you become totally petrified and immobile, they will come to your rescue and help you get back down to the ground.

Go to the park’s website, http://westbloomfieldadventurepark.org/ , to get all the information and details you need to plan your trip. The ticket price for this sort of adventure is not the cheapest but one money saver is that you can bring your own picnic lunch or snacks. Also, if you just want to be an observer and keep your feet planted firmly on the ground, it’s free.

Climbing up into the trees would definitely be a challenge for me because I’m afraid of heights. It’s not for the faint of heart but I know the feeling of overcoming my fears is awesome. I tested my limits once on a white water rafting trip and I was so proud of myself afterwards. It was scary as hell but worth every minute. The feeling of accomplishment and rise in self-confidence was worth the price of the ticket and then some. Tree tops here I come….maybe……we’ll see.
