Gifts That Keep on Giving

Every year I ask my parents what they would like as a gift for Christmas and every year they say, “Oh, you don’t need to get us a present. We don’t need anything.” Truth be told, most of us are lucky enough to not need anything but it still is nice to give (and receive too). So what do you buy that difficult person on your gift list? My friend recently posted an article from ClickOnDetroit.com with some really good ideas for gifts (you can read the whole article here: http://tinyurl.com/lslkn6f). These are a few of my favorites:

  • Buy a membership to the Detroit Zoo, the Detroit Institute of Art, or The Henry Ford Museum. Or for those outdoorsy types, purchase yearly passes to state/county parks or Metroparks.
  • Find out what shows, concerts, or sporting events are coming to local venues and buy tickets that your loved ones would enjoy.
  • Purchase a subscription to the “Wine of the Month Club,” “Beer of the Month Club,” or “Cheese of the Month Club” (you get the idea)! Even magazine subscriptions are great gifts.
  • Instead of buying a bunch of toys for your kids (that usually end up in the toy box collecting dust after about ten minutes worth of use), plan a trip to a water park hotel for a night. Or, take your kids to one of those trampoline places and let them bounce away their holiday vacation energy.

These great gift ideas are perfect for all occasions throughout the year not just during the holidays. This kind of giving provides events and experiences that create wonderful memories not clutter. What could be better than that?!
