Farmers Market

I had a chance to go to the new Davison Farmer’s Market last Saturday. It’s new this year and it’s located on Court Street just east of Irish Rd. next to D&W Windows and Sunrooms.TM  There were many interesting local vendors selling goods ranging anywhere from  sea salt to sausages and everything in between. It was a nice way to spend some time walking around with my daughter and sampling some of the yummy food.

There are actually quite a few different farmer’s markets around our area. Here are a some to check out:

1.      As mentioned above, the Davison Farmer’s Market is located at 8110 E. Court St. in Davison. It’s open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8am-6pm year-round. For more details check out their website:  http://davisonfarmersmarket.com

2.      The Flint Farmer’s Market is currently located at 420 East Boulevard in Flint but will very soon be moving  to the old Flint Journal printing facility at 300 E. First St. This market is also open year-round, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 8am-5pm. During the spring and summer, fun events are scheduled such live music, the BBQ battle on July 19, or Flower Daze with tons of flower vendors which is happening this weekend, May 24th. Check out the website for more information:  http://flintfarmersmarket.com

3.      The Grand Blanc Farmer’s Market opened last weekend (May 18th) and is now open every Sunday until October 26th, 10am-3pm. Beginning July 9th, it will be open Wednesday evenings 4pm-7pm. The market is located on Grand Boulevard just west of Saginaw St. between Reid and Grand Blanc Road. Check out their schedule of events and get more information here:  http://www.cityofgrandblanc.com/NewsEvents/FarmersMarket/tabid/5439/Default.aspx.

Not only is the food and produce at farmer’s markets better for you (and the environment) because it’s locally grown but you’ll be supporting local farmers and businesses. Plus, it’s just plain fun to get out, enjoy the fresh air and mingle with other people in your community. You never know what you’ll see or who you’ll meet but for sure you’ll be bringing home some good eats.
