Easy Upgrades

If you are thinking about selling your home in the near future, there are a few easy upgrades you can do around your house that will not only add appeal to potential buyers but may also add to the value of your home - which means more money in your pocket.

Paint. This is probably the cheapest and easiest way to transform a house. Choose neutral colors that will appeal to a wide range of tastes. Make sure the job is done properly leaving sharp edges, no streaks or messy drips. A bad paint job can be seen a mile away.

Easy Kitchen Fixes. A kitchen can be very expensive to renovate. If that is just not in the budget, there are a few things you can do to spruce it up. Paint the cabinet doors a nice neutral color and replace the door/drawer hardware with pretty and updated knobs/handles. The cabinets will look even better if you can resurface them (sand them down) before you put the fresh coat of paint on.

Crown Molding and Baseboards. This is not always the easiest project but it will immediately add character to any room. Mitering the corners can be a little tricky but with practice it will get easier (or just hire a pro!). Keep the color neutral, usually white or off-white, and any room will be transformed.

Faucets and Fixtures. Replace cheap or dated light fixtures with pretty modern ones that fit the style of your home. Tasteful chandeliers and ceiling fans are also a nice touch. When picking out faucets for your kitchen or bath be sure they complement the style of the room. Elegant and well-made fixtures and faucets will not go unnoticed by potential buyers so purchase the nicest ones you can afford.

Curb Appeal. Don’t forget to clean up your yard. Mow the grass, trim the bushes. and clean up the flower beds. Spruce up your entryway by giving your front door a fresh coat of paint and putting some pretty flower pots on your porch. Aim for simple and inviting.

All of these projects can be done yourself and they are well worth the time and effort. The best part is that the cost is minimal but the rewards are great especially if it results in the sale of your home!
